NILOOFAR KASBI
Niloofar Kasbi born in 1987, lives and works in Tehran, Iran.
Kasbi is an artist and educator whose impressive, elaborate drawing practice represents humanity’s fragile relationship between man and his surroundings. Mainly she uses a traditional Iranian art form of monochromatic ink drawing called Siyäh-Qalam, meaning “black pen” in delicately rendered landscapes, Kasbi research the native plants for different areas for each landscape and reinterprets the scenes with surprising contemporary elements.
Inside her botanical, error-free, monochrome illustrations, she delivers consistent fine lines that are a mixture of figures and landscapes in a meditative yet intricate notion. She aims to utilize traditional Persian drawing techniques as the contemporary discourse, either actual or phantasmagorical.
